Meet Our Members: Alessandra Nicole

By websites@tappnetwork.com

Alessandra Nicole is a commercial and special events photographer that has been in business since the early 2000s. Her work includes photographing products for catalogs as well as helping PR firms in NYC launch new restaurants. Locally, her client roster includes the Delaware Art Museum, Mt. Cuba Center, and Delaware Shakespeare. She also enjoys photographing and writing about a variety of experiences, from piloting to wine making, which have appeared in essays in various regional Chester County Press publications.

Although she attended the Savannah College of Art and Design for illustration and filmmaking, Alessandra’s first job out of school was working for the government in Washington, D.C. She picked up her first camera while searching for a creative outlet and began taking photos in the cities she was traveling to.
Less than a week after buying her first camera, she was assigned to be in New York City. Her documentary photography on September 11-12, 2001 went on national tour as part of a larger exhibit in 2002 They were later published as part of a larger collection in a very poignant two-page spread of “The September 11 Photo Project.”

She continues to travel often and considers herself a global citizen. Her love for cultural diversity is what drew her to The Mill. She says, “I really like working in the community space and hearing various languages being spoken around me. This keeps me in the frame of mind that although little Wilmington is my ‘lily pad’ in between jobs and travels these days, the world is still my oyster, and I have access to like minds across cultures and careers just by turning to the left or the right and saying, ‘Hello, My name is Alessandra.'”

Alessandra is also a TEDx speaker. This past April she gave a ten minute TEDx talk titled “The Power of Paper Letter Exchange” and founded an organization that fosters long term writing relationships through the mail. Paper Letter Exchange is still in its infancy but she will be collaborating with artists from around the world in creating a hybrid of analog and current technology to instill a renewed love for the handwritten letter.
