Two members of The Mill at Concord have found themselves where few people have before: inclusion in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.
Rarely are Delaware business up-and-comers even considered for this recognition… surely fewer than ten in the four-decade existence of the Philadelphia Business Journal(PBJ). And, they’re very possibly the youngest Delawareans ever included– Alex Pickett is 21, and Dan Goodman is 23.
But have a conversation with these guys, and you’re sure to agree that their ages are irrelevant compared to their knowledge of online gaming, sports betting, the mindset of their users, international factors, even which country is the best place to buy an iPhone.
The guys met at the University of Delaware. Alex graduated last year, and Dan will graduate in 2022. Their business, Ultimate Tournament, is a platform for play-by-play betting on esports and, according to the PBJ, “lets commercial gambling operators offer to bet on esports matches.”
And guess what else… Alex and Dan made the PBJ’s Inno Under 25 (as in innovators) list too.
In addition to Alex and Dan, Ultimate Tournament has two employees (usually within The Mill), two remote contractors, and the expectation to add five more people.
“We love The Mill because it’s a modern space with great amenities in a central location that’s cost-effective,” Alex says.
Both guys feel that working from home can be highly over-rated especially compared to their current setting. “We can really focus here, everything else gets left at the door, no interruptions,” Dan says.
“Great environment inside and out, peaceful yet stimulating,” Alex adds.
